I have taught in higher education since 2016, including as lead course instructor and as a teaching assistant at Simon Fraser University and at the University of Washington. My teaching centres anti-racist critical pedagogies that address how social power structures, including hierarchies of race, class, gender, sexuality, and impacts of settler colonialism, have historically shaped what types of knowledge are perceived as credible. The ongoing presence of these structures continues to shape how learning is experienced in higher education, including who feels comfortable engaging in classrooms and which perspectives and voices are commonly assigned in course materials.
For example, I often use scaffolded assignments in my courses to provide students with opportunities to receive feedback at different stages in their work and engage with that feedback to strengthen their work and understanding. I also integrate a range of case studies and examples in course lectures and assignments so that students are able to relate to the content in ways that are meaningful to them, which strengthens and deepens their understandings and engagement with theory and key concepts.
Through these practices I create classroom spaces that value different types of knowledge and use experiential learning to facilitate strong learning for students with a range of backgrounds and experiences. I have experience designing and teaching courses that occur in in-person and online (synchronous and asynchronous) delivery formats. I design classroom spaces to take seriously a range of accessibility needs, creating learning environments that support neurodiverse students as well as students with different backgrounds and learning strengths.
I have taught the following courses as lead instructor at the University of Washington:

- ENGL 298: Intermediate Writing in the Social Sciences (Fall 2022 and Winter 2023)

I have included examples of excerpted student work (shared with permission) below to illustrate how my approach to teaching informs assignments and supports student learning. My full teaching philosophy statement, example syllabi and assignments, full student work examples, and course evaluations are available upon request. Many thanks to my students for their willingness to share their thoughtful work here.
