Geography 301: Cultural Geographies

I taught Geography 301: Cultural Geographies at the University of Washington. The course was delivered in an online format utilizing asynchronous content delivery. The course introduced students to foundational subdisciplines within cultural geographies, beginning with the understanding that culture is inherently tied to identity and politics in our everyday lives. Course concepts were applied to pop culture case studies in lectures and student work to support students’ learning of theoretical frameworks by critically analyzing case studies that were relevant and connected to their everyday lives. Throughout the term, students worked on scaffolded assignments that developed a critical analysis of their chosen pop culture case study. Students could choose whether to create a zine, podcast, or academic essay and received instructor feedback at each stage of the final project. I have included a small selection of final projects below and am able to provide additional samples upon request.
